Independent Study

Independent study is a vital part of learning the skills of Science and developing them beyond the classroom. The ‘Succeeding in Science’ document gives guidance on the kinds of habits and practices we ask you to develop in Science and we consider these to be the most important element of your routine of independent learning. Your teachers will also give you regular pieces of directed homework to develop your skills and understanding.

At Key Stage 3 we expect you to read through your notes from the previous lesson and ensure that they are complete and that you understand them.

In addition to this we will typically set 30 minutes homework (per subject) per week to reinforce your learning and develop your science skills.

At Key Stage 4 we expect you to read through your notes from the previous lesson and ensure that they are complete and that you understand them.

At Key Stage 5 we expect you to read through your notes from the previous lesson and ensure that they are complete and that you understand them. You should also do additional reading to ensure that you fully understand the subject content.

For every hour of timetabled lessons, you would be expected to do an hour of additional work outside the classroom.
