Year 13 Art

Guidance for parents

What students will cover this year in Art?

This year will be taking their exam and selecting their best work to submit to the examiner.

What skills are being developed this year in Art?

As always the basic skills we reviewed, but it up to the student to decide which media they use and how they decide to work with the themes set.

Our expectations of students in Art

We expect students to be very independent and proactive in their work. They should be telling us what they plan to do rather than them asking us what to do next. They will have free periods where they will be expected to continue their work in the Art rooms and the designated 6th form studio.

What they should be doing at home?

Home work is 3 hours a week. This could be going to a gallery, taking photos, doing sketches, experimenting with media or researching chosen artists’ work. This will depend at what stage of the work they are at.

What parents can do to help them make progress?

Check they are doing their homework weekly and keeping up with everything. It is vital that they maintain progress, not leaving anything until the last minute.

Who to contact if there is a problem?

The student needs to talk to the art teacher first if she is struggling with the work. The student can always come in to the Art rooms at lunchtime and free periods to catch-up with and finish work.

Resources

Ensure they have a good set of materials. The preferred media will vary from student to student so they need to invest some materials they have not bought before.

Questions parents should ask their children about Art

In yr 13 course work and examination preparation is done over long a period and homeworks are not set by the teacher each week. Discuss what progress is being made on a regular basis and what needs to be done to move the work forward.
